Beijing 2008 Olympic Games
Finally started. Pity I am still at work and can't see the Opening Ceremony.
But seems pretty big :-) As will be the whole Olympic Games, I think. If you find a video of it somewhere, please, let me know

olympics are stupid. and no, thats not me being bitter because toronto was passed over for beijing. im happy theyre not here because otherwise our city would be crawling with retards and idiots and i wouldnt want to leave my house (not that i do that much anyways :P). theyre such a waste of time and resources and other valuable stuff. look at montreal, they hosted the olympics and have these big, ugly venues there and nothing gets done with them and no one uses them. why waste all that money on shit youll use for 2 weeks then never use again? it could be better spent on the citys infrastructure, or poverty, or other vital needs that are always short changed. not to mention all the money wasted in government funding for this bullshit. then, the worst part, it comes on tv and totally ruins the schedules, everything pauses, and no one will STFU about the goddamn olympics on the news channels.
olympics: GO THE FUCK AWAY

I love the Olympics! Every since I was a little kid I've enjoyed watching both the summer and winter Olympics. The First Summer Olympics I got to watch was the 1984 Los Angeles games and I remember watching them mostly at hotels and motels on a summer trip through Canada. My favortie Olympics though was the 92 Barcelona games...watchin the Dream Team kick ass at basketball was awesome!
This year I'm really rooting for the Team USA Basketball Team! Got to watch them play in an international tournament last August and man was that a ton of fun So hurray for the Olympics and go Team USA!!!!!

Good thread,Fibonacci.
Although I see the World Cup of football and even the Euro cup is more important than the Olympic Games "for me" but I like to watch the Olympic Games and it has a specialt taste as the most or all countries of the world are participate in it. I'll hope to get that video but I hear it isn't easy to find it in the internet but be sure if I found it you will get it. |

I love the Olympic games, the same as a lot of other main sport events.
But the Olympics has something special: you can see a lot of different unusuall sports not comonly shown in tv, and not only the best of best are participating here. Seeing a woman runnig without shoes, beeing terribly behind and the whole stadion aplauding her makes this event very special And great start for Czech republic, 2 gold medals, both in shooting Kateřina Emos and David Kostelecký

I think its wonderful how all the countries can gather up and share this 2 week event together. The opening ceremony was great, though I read an article that half of the fireworks were fake for the tv viewers (special effects)? I have been watching mostly gymnastics, swimming and my favorite sport, basketball. Its really entertaining, and im glad i have it in high definition

Holy shit !! The real-life stories might be very cruel
This is the moment Hungarian weightlifter Janos Baranyai's first Olympics ended in agony when he dislocated his right elbow in the ugliest moment yet of the Olympic weightlifting competition. Baranyai was trying to snatch 148kg in his third lift in the men's 77kg division, when his elbow popped out of its socket. No longer able to support the weight of the barbell, his right forearm bent backward. The 24-year-old Hungarian fell to the floor in shock, shaking and crying out in pain. Video fe. here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/0..._n_118695.html He is ok now: His injury looks really awful, but no bones were broken and his dislocated elbow was re-seated while he was sedated. His arm looks normal now and he is recuperating. It could take several months to heal completely.

Isn't the olympics supposed to put some of these differences of opinion aside? I agree that China's policy towards its own people has been less than exemplary, but I don't know if a boycott, as some people had suggested prior to the start of the competition, was the right approach.

If you go to NBCOlympics.com, they have ALL of the highlights from the olympics so far. If you click on the Videos link and look at the highlights, they have about an Hour's worth of the Opening ceremonies to watch. Its very good, I must say...

Beijing was bad choice. Proof Olympics has become more about the money. Human rights no big deal if you have a budget to cover it up.
