Did you know that The Liberals had their roots in a Scottish Presbytarian political movement that became known as The Whigs, derived from a Gaelic word literally meaning horse thief? After the assassination of John F, Kennedy, Lyndon B. Johnson was sworn in as president by a federal judge (Sarah T. Huges) in Dallas on board Air Force One prior to its takeoff. Jackie Kennedy was still wearing the same blood stained dress that she had worn in the limo and was standing beside Johnson.

Franklin D. Roosevelt was elected to three terms and died before completing his third term. However, Roosevelt had become more of king and certainly would have been re-elected for life. Truman became the next president. He had a Democratically controlled congress. The 22nd ammendment (which placed a two term limit on the presidency) exempted Truman, and was ratified in 1951 during the Truman administration. Eisenhower was not involved.

another note was that Johnson wanted the plane to take off right away. But its crew refused until JFK`s body was on board, then they left!

The only President that would have been Pres for life was Teddy Roosevelt but he honored his campaign promise to only serve one term as President.

Becoming one of only a few Presidents to honor a campaign promise!

In reality, Kennedy's coffin was loaded on Air Force One prior to Johnson's arrival. The controversy was over whether or not Johnson would accompany the body back to Washington. It was decided that because an assassin or assassins were at large, the best course of action was to get Johnson out of Dallas and back to Washington. Johnson delayed the departure and arranged for a federal judge and a photo opportunity with Jackie Kennedy in the swearing in ceremony.

More accurately, Teddy Roosevelt became president after the McKinley assassination. He served two terms and promised not to run for a third term. After a four year vacation which included a well documented trip to Africa, he ran for the Republican nomination for president and lost. He then formed the Bull Moose party and ran as an independent. He lost the election to Woodrow Wilson. In that he lost two elections, he was not given the chance to be president for life.

Did you know that FDR was the first incumbant President to fly, in a Boeing 314 flying boat in 1943, when he flew from Washiton to Casablanca.

And also that the Secret Service refused to allow him to fly in the first aircraft configured as a Presidential Transport, a C87A (a transport version of the B29 Liberator) because of its questionable safety record.
