Damaged goods
No, I'm not being chauvinistic. OK, maybe a little.
Suppose that after you've been in a relationship for a while, and you're at the past sharing point. Your girlfriend however has a very traumatic expirience to disclose: she had been raped. How do you react? And does she become more attractive to you?

Are you meaning during our relationship or before, if so how long before, what type of rape, who by, how has she appeared to have coped with it? So many variables you can't really begin to understand or believe how you would react, other than I would feel very angry inside at the rapist

More attractive? No.. I can't imagine that would happen. I would feel very concerned, and do whatever is in my power to help them...

The fact that you titled this "damaged goods" bothers me a little.
Why would something that happened against her will put her in this category? I have encountered this reaction several times, actually. There are guys who cannot deal with the fact that this happened to me and ended the relationship. Why is that? I would love to have some explain this to me.

I'm going to secod that... calling a person "damaged goods" because of something like that is horrible.

Okay, it's a little sick and twisted I admit, but when a lover told me she had been raped, and described the attack to me, deep in my heart, it turned me on. That she survived, and still enjoys rape fantasy, fills me with deep respect (and some more lust). Sure, if I ever found the guy, I'd cut off his toes and feed them to him, then his fingers, then his nuts, but the story still turned me on.

I honestly would be repulsed if someone found what happened to me a turn on. It wasn't nice and i fucking hated every second of it. If someone i trusted then decided (after i confided what had happened to me) i was damaged goods, i would have no respect for that person and just leave him.

I'm not good at empathy or sympathy. In the past such revelations haven't really touched me, it's just another snippet of information to store away about the person, along with her favourite colour and her birthday.
The question reminds me about one new years eve when the friend of a good friend told me hecwas gay. I just shrugged and said "So what?". I just don't understand why such a big issue was made of it, but my friend really laid into me for my reaction. That puzzled me. What is important to me is what the person is here and now, not what happened to make that person. That is simply because people cope differently with traumatic events. I'm aware of little miss Rotters past for example, but she doesn't constantly dwell on it, and it doesn't impact on our relationship.

You're a wise man, Rotter.
A person is the sum of their experiences. If you liked her before you knew about it, why would you look at her differently?

Exactly. And the same with the gay friend. He was ok before I knew he was gay, what was I supposed to think or say?

The title is here to catch people's attention, nothing else. I do not think rape victims are damaged.
And as for me... Well, call me too sick to leave quarantine, I would find it a slight turn on. But not in every case!. If this was something that was clearly still causing her trauma and talking about it was painful, I would not find that hot. I'd feel too guilty. If she was able to get over it and move on, then I would be turned on by the fact.

As it happens Mr Twister, I consider it a plus, I'm not weighed down by other peoples emotional traumas.

I don't like the title of this thread much, either. There are people very close to me who have been raped, and I do not find that arousing. I find it angering. It makes me want to find the bastards who did it and beat them into a pulp.
