OK, I think I have the solution! - Rape Board

I have heard from a lot of members that they do not like all the drama and fights happening on board. Some mebers have left because of this very reason. Agreeing with all of them, I decided to do something about it. So, after spending several hours reading the posts in the rowdy room, I managed to pinpoint the root cause of the evil that struck RapeBoard. And have the solution:

BRING BACK ANONYMOUS REPPING!

This whole mess started when repping was made onymous. I remeber that, and at first it was a popularity contest. Then it became a side distraction until the neg repping started. Where that led, we see today. I'm not claiming that if we anonymise repping all will be well. It will not. But the drama will go down to a tolerable level.

In fact, I'm making this a petition. Sign here if you agree this will be a beneficial change to RB.

I agree for the most part. I like knowing who gives me rep because I like to say thank you. It does cause hurt feelings on the board which leads to the rowdy room.

Not that I have anything against the rowdy room, but it does distract from the fun! I always thought that getting rowdy would be more stalking, ripping, stripping and taking!

Here's a thought, we could change the purpose of the rooms, Idle talk for all the people who like to fight and use the Rowdy Room for some good old fashioned Rowdiness!

I agree Menace, I have never really left, but I rarely participate here anymore. I miss the old RB. Your point about rep is a good one, it does seem to have touched off a few of the more juvenille flame wars.

So, I will sign your petition. though given the state of the board now, it wouldn't suprise me if your suggestion draws howls of trollish outrage, and we both get neg rep'd for it

We shifted to showing people a limited list of people who had repped them because anonymous rep caused a bunch of problems too. Believe me no matter how things are set or how we try to do things people aint gonna be happy and are gonna find reasons to fight and complain.

Yes there was. But that was less problematic because it would amount to "Who did it? You? You?" and end up with either someone claiming the deed (rarely) or nothing. So I believe this was better.

ever since i have been here the -rep has caused problems , i don't know about before . so yes i'm in favor of it . as for the +rep it is nice knowing who gives it to you , but we could just post +rep in the posts

SD is right of course , but some idiots don't need rep for an excuse to argue . some it seems only come into RB to do that .

people will argue, its not to do with rep or anything else like that. Its just thats how people are. We're all different, we all have different views and attitudes and even on a site like this where we all have a very specific shared interest there are goign to be people we don't like or get on with.

I mean yeah the flaming and neg repping can be really tiresome and some of the arguments we have on here are lame and sometimes venomous but thats what makes the world go round. If we didn't have conflict then we wouldn't know who we liked.

So we have a mixture just like wider society, some of us tease (hello) some of us make dumb jokes and others like to have a bit of a row sometimes.

Just enjoy yourselves and don't take it all so seriously, its only rape and we have a rowdy room for everything else

I have to say though.When people talk about the good old days of RB it bugs me a little.Everything changes.Nothing stays the same.
All you can do is make the best of right now.

PF and DarkOne, good points! And I actually agree with all of them. People will argue about their differencies and that is not a bad thing up to a certain point. I'm not trying to make the world get-along-and-live-happily-in-peace-and-prosperity, since I don't have a magic wand which will do that. What I am trying to do is bring rows down to a reasonable and tolerable level. And this is what I think will get us there.

And yes, things will always change. But they should change for the better. When they do not, it's up to us to see where it went wrong and fix it.

Erm, I don't really have an opinion either way, I like to know who'd repping me, but wouldn't really be too bothered if it became anonymous. Sometimes the bickering, I wouldn't call it fighting as it's too lame most of the time, gets a bit much but if it stays in the rowdy then it's not too muxh of a problem. I've never recieved any neg rep or gotton into it with anybody so maybe my opinion doesn't count as much.

I do appreciate the fact that someone cares enough to put some serious thought into how the board could be improved and the happiness of others.

I don't have a problem with people seeing how I rep them. If I give them -rep, I usually let them know why I felt like doing so. As well as when I +rep someone.

I like knowing who reped me.

Personally I think the whole rep thing has gotten way out of control. Before I got back I would not have imagined a person have over 3,000 rep here...now I have seen it not on one person but many. Not a complaint just a change in how things are...hell I'm almost there.

I personally think that anonymous repping caused more problems. There would be more threads such as "who the fuck neg repped me??" and people having seizures trying to figure out who the bastards where. Now you just take it up with the person, since you know.

Also, now thats its shown, people are less likely to neg rep just to do it...

I have to agree with you on that Chi. Now you get someone giving you neg rep because you gave it to them but so what the world does not end.

If you feel strongly enough about a post to give a negative then you should feel strongly enough about it to sign your name to it. Otherwise people just blast away since no one knows they did it.

The only thing I disagree about anonymous reping is that when someone uses it and won't give up who they are, now you have someone who is disgruntled because of an act of (pardon the man behind the mask) cowardice. This board has to be governed by civility otherwise other people will leave because they have had an insult thrown their way that they can't resond to.

I haven't had many and the ones that I did get I either challenged in an IM and if that didn't resolve it, brought it to the rowdy room for a knock down dragout.

We are all adults here and if we can't follow the rules of civil discourse, the MODs can send us packing. If you have a critique of someone say it to their virtual face so they can respond. Otherwise keep it to your self. If someone says something out of line; Rowdy room. If that doesn't work, ban em!

I'll weigh in for NOT making it anonymous

If we are going to use the rep thing at all, people who give out neg rep should have the cajones to own up to it. Yeah, you get some "back at ya" neg repping but who cares? Yeah, it causes some fights, but at least you're fighting with the right person.

I give out WAY more positive rep than I do negative rep. It's a nice way to say "good job" to someone without interrupting a thread or going through the whole PM routine. I would hate it if that was made anonymous, too.

I have to agree with Becka on one thing...the repping thing has gotten WAY out of control. There are people who have been on the board for six months, been the subject of huge controversy, maybe received a warning or even been banned - and they have 2-3,000 of rep. Others who have been good members for years don't have anywhere near that much. Don't we think there's something wrong there?

Actually you people make some good points, I can totally see even more arguments and worse still, witch-hunts going on over neg repping.

I'm not to bothered about rep myself, it's nice to have of course and I appreciate people giving it to me, but I don't think my posts warrant it at all; I'm not funny and don't post anything insightful. So yeah just leave it the way it is, I like to know who reps me.
