Hurricane Gustav Update - Rape Board

I don't know how much appeal this has to the rest of the world, but it dominates conversation here in the gulf for now...so this post is to a)gauge interest in hurricanes in the gulf, and b) update anyone who cares on the baton rogue perspective of the storm.

so an update, it is now 4 am here and we have only had light (really light considering we're waiting on a hurricane) rain, obviously my internet and electricity is still intact, and hopefully it will continue this way. Reports around 9 am were that the storm would be rough here around 3 am, so i don't know, and the news ain't helping me that much right now. There are scattered reports of tornardos but again, no rough patches here in BR.

If i go without a post for 18+ hours you can assume i lost power and or internet....and then my life sucks, because i love a/c and the internet.

...don't think anyone cares, but just in case its now a category 3 as opposed to the category 5 it was strongly thought to be...and i still have internet, so we'll see how this goes...unfortunately if its too weak, then when the next hurricane comes we'll have another Katrina (fuck the national weather service, last time we left and nothing happened).

...fuck, as of 6:30 am (US central time) east baton rouge parish has tornado warnings and if a tornado comes...i'm so not prepared to deal with that shit. I will curl up in a ball and pray.

Thanks for the updates. My family evacuated the coast yesterday and this morning things seem to be better than expected.

I was watching a bit of the local news on the net. I hope everyone is ok when this is over. I have been thru a couple of Hurricanes and they are no fun.

Well, this one hit us (Baton rouge) alot worse than Katrina (which isn't saying much)...i'm just thrilled i don't have to work for a few days and now that i have power and beer, my life is good. Although i do have a leak after my a/cs cover got ripped off of the roof.

I think we went a little more than 24 hours without power. However, there seemed to be alot of trees and i haven't driven around much (sadly, i think my truck may have water in it). And my landlord made it sound pretty bad.

I talked to friends about 30 mins from N.O. (slidell) and they said that they really didn't get much of the storm.

However i think there's three more active systems out right now, so we shall see.

Maybe you guys can expect a better response from the govt. The last time, Bush had his head so far up his ass he had no idea what was happening...or didn't care...maybe it'll be better this time! Looks like the next one, Hanna, is heading for us (SC)!
