After joining this must be renamed from R1_6-24-06 to R1_6-24-06.???.
What is the file extension>

i gess . wmv if we look at the preview image its named .wmv

sorry guys this was really my first attempt at splitting movie files for rapid share and i'm kinda new to this by file extension what exactly do you mean?

No need to appologise about anything boldin18!

Every file must have a filename and an extension. The filename is the name of the file in this case "R1_6-24-06". The extension allows the computer to recognize the format of the file so when double clicket to open the appropriate application. Extensions like avi, wmv, asf, mpg opens with Media Player. Others like qt, mov opens with Quick Time player etc.

So a file must look like this R1_6-24-06.avi. If you cannot see the file extension you can open you Windows Explorer (let's say double click on the MyComputer icon) and in the menu choose Tools. Then Folder Options and in the tab View uncheck the option Hide File Extension for Known File Types.

After that you will see the files AND their extensions.

Hi I've downloaded all the parts, joined them with hjsplit and rename the completed file to .wmv as instructed, but the file won't play.

I tried to play it using Windows Media Classic but I got the error that says "Cannot render the file". I then tried it with Windows Media Player and it says "The file is either corrupt or the player does not support the format you are trying to play". Maybe the file is damaged or something but I'm not sure.

Any ideas??

Try to rename the joined file with extension RAR and UnRar it to extract the wmv file .... just an idea.

hi guys!
i had the same problem, nothing worked! not renaming in wmv and rar or anything other.

solution(complicated, but it works):
the version of hjsplit i have starts joining always with the file with the .001 extension. the problem is, the files posted here start with .000.
i renamed all the files, starting with .001. Then the extensions start at .001 and end at .012. now you can use hjsplit and rename the joined file to.wmv.
now it works!
