ha, i feel like this is a question that would be posted by a 13 year old on yahoo answers. Still, this has always been a favorite topic of mine.

Can guys and girls ever be just friends or is there always going to be some sort of sexual tension?

Personally, i think guys and girls can be just friends, but, only they are not attracted to each other, if for some reason (best friends girlfriend, can't think of anymore scenarios, etc.) they can not have a relationship, then it is possible.

But generally, i think one party ends up attracted to the other and ruins the whole thing.

Any thoughts?

In my opinion they can be just friends but there is always a chance of sexual tension screwing it up in the long run.

IMHO they cannot in 99%. I give only 1% for special situations but I doubt about those too.

i know men and women can be friends . but having that without flirting and sexual tension (whether both know it isn't going anywhere or not) i don't think so . in my experience it doesn't happen .

i think it is natural to flirt and play with the other sex whether you are friends or not .

I think it depends.

I've made the mistake before of turning a good friend into a bad lover. We didn't make it romantically and I lost a friend.

There is always sexual tension underlying a friendship between a man and a woman if they are in any way attracted. It can add a certain spice and excitement to the friendship. Doesn't mean you have to act on it.

I think it makes it easier to keep the relationship just friends if one or both of the two are either in a committed relationship, if they had been close childhood friends or if there is no physical attraction at all.

But, if there is chemistry between them then there's bound to be sexual tension!!! And it only builds and builds until it's just a matter of time...

Yes I think it is possible for a guy and a girl to just be friends, even for a long period. I think it varies from person to person and it depends on one's age...some can't resist their sexual tension and always have a crush on their female friends. When I was a young teen I've had multiple crushes...crush on almost all of my female friends (especially the hotter ones). As I began to mature, and gain control of my hormones (

), I found that I became less "intense", and had less crushes.

I'm a guy and I've had several female friends. There was one that I was never sexually attracted to and neither did I think that she was attracted to me. Our friendship didn't last long, as we eventually stopped contacting each other. I suppose this case counts...? Because we were never anything more than friends (and our friendship lasted quite long).

I've been friends with the same guy for 10 years and there has never been any sexual tension. He's even friends with my hubby now and comes over at least twice a month and has dinner with us.

My hubby has a female friend and they have been friends for 3 years.

I think it depends on the people but I see no reason that a guy and a girl can't just be friends.

-as stated, i also believe a guy and girl can truely be just friends, but only if neither are attracted for some reason or another.
