Waaaay to heavy! As an aside I recently saw a panel discussion featuring several prominent authorities on religion. One of them made the observation that our species shoud be renamed "Home Religioso" from "Home Sapiens" due to his contention that we have grappled with the idea of God everywhere on the planet.

No I do not believe in God. Nor do I believe in the afterlife, heaven or hell. I wish I could have believed in Faries, cos they seem funky, but I dont. Or Santa. The tooth fairy. Nor do I believe fire breathing dragons exist. Or Unicorns...

The need, the desire for a greater "entity" is a biological leftover from our not quite animal - not quite human brain. So when we looked up into the stars and were frightened or we could'nt explain the lightening...earthquakes etc...we needed, our brains required, an explanation....god...in its many forms...was constructed and exploited as that explanation.

I find religion and by extension, God, the most revolting inflicition on humanity.
Its an excuse. A way to avoid dealing with the hear and now, a way to excuse behaviour...'belief' is to reject humanity itself.

The definition Christians give, is only their admit of their weakness.

But:
Lets say that someone gives you an answer.Someone proves that god exists or dont exists.
Will your behavior change?
If not, no need to continue this.
But if yes, shit, you really 'need' a god.....

Whatever you may think of religion, an entity like a god/gods and the people who believe or do not I just urge everybody - should this topic be continued - to handle this discussion as well as your posts sensitively enough not to insult people.

People have been killing each other now for thousands of years over that very subject. Killing each other in the name of GOD!(stupid) Is GOD for real?? The only ones who know the real answer are dead and wont tell us!

Some of us hope he exists, while the rest of us hope he DOESNT?? I work with a guy whos favorite joke is that "He is a Athetist" you ask him "Really??" and he replys "Yes Swear to GOD!!!"

So the debate will go on for as long as mankind exists I think?? Or until the trumpets sound everywhere and a lot of us go......"AWWW SHIT!!!!!

ok u know what sumtimes when i am doing sumthing...like taking a shit...or havin a wank er wonder if god really does see everything and then sumtimes i imagine standing before him in front of a huge plasma screen surrounded by my family who have passed b4 me and seeing every dirty thing i ever did..............i then try and make a run for it.....but god puts a thunderbolt up my ass!!...................................also how come everytime i think of god i imagine an old white guy (santa lookalike) in a cloud???
