Depends on the cover and by who. Not many are as good as or better than the original though. That said there's songs that you hear and assume are originals and believe that until you find out otherwise then you never like the original as much as the cover is the original song to you... (does that even make sense)

I re-reading I see what what you mean, original songs by original artists. A solo singer never really nails the effort of a collective group when he's by himself with a backing band.

Edit: To go back to my original, although tangent, point about cover versions, I just listened to one that's far batter than the original. Johnny Cash - One, originally by U2. It's just so much better, really touches something inside you. U2 suck Hairy nutsack.

thats another answer that depends on who it is.
While Bob Dylan started out acoustic, he ended up electric.
My love for Stevie Ray Vaughan, I found that his few tracks like Pride & Joy from MTV Unplugged kicks ass.Eric Claptons accoustic is gr8 too.

I would rather say Electric - that sound cannot beat any others to me.
Especially when the guitar wails - thats my feelings yelling out when Im down & out.
