Absolutely.

You can use any IRC client you feel comfortable with. With Admin/Moderator support this could be a sticky thread, or maybe just this message duplicated as the second message for the existing sticky thread at the top for 'chatroom'.

Once you've got your IRC client executing:
- Select/set "irc.bondage.com" as the server you log into (via IRC), then
choose, either or both of the following rooms. It is THAT easy, folks!
"#RB_chat" for general chat
"#RB_play" for public scenes and group play

Both rooms are open now, as a matter of fact.

Not sure of the progress, but I believe work is also being done for a Java-based version. At least I've heard talk of that.

Work on Java access through a web browser is held up. I need a place to host this. But as NoTrouble has said, it's easy via an IRC client. And once set up, the client opens a whole world for chat possibilities, besides these two channels.

Some suggestions regarding an IRC client:
mIrc -- Shareware. The best known. Very easy to use, very easy to get help with.
PJIRC -- Suggested by Noname. Haven't tried this one myself.
ircII -- Very popular on linux
Chatzilla -- By Mozilla, the same ppl who bring us Firefox. Not the easiest to use, but open source.
And many others, just search for irc clients.

Once on the client, you can do as suggested by NoTrouble, or just type "/server irc.bondage.com 6667" on the command line to connect to the server. Then type "/join #rb_chat" to get into the chat room. We'll help you further from there.

so I got it to work I think, there was someone else in the channel but I guess they werent there, but that makes me think I at least joined the right room.. anyway, maybe another night when its not some crazy hour I'll get to meet you all

The chatrooms (or channels) are very much alive, though only moderate activity, with a max of 5 users, 2 average. All we really need to make this work are ~people~. Anyone interested: If you're online, especially if you're using IRC, drop in and hang out, even if the room is empty. If we all do this, we will overlap and the channel gets rolling.

I've changed the topic to read "Welcome to the RB chatroom....", so you'll know you're in the right place.

Currently the chat rooms cannot be accessed using a browser. As time allows, I'll look for place to host Java access for this purpose.

IRC predates browsers, and is traditionally and best viewed via a client, or executable software. See http://www.rapeboard.com/showpost.ph...7&postcount=25 for just a few suggestions.

Once the client is installed, you can use the commands in that same post to access the rooms. The client not only gives access to the rooms themselves, but opens the whole world of IRC chat. Might want to visit "#forced_consent" while parked in our rooms. Or meet people in a local room like "#D/s_pennsylvania".

If anyone is having any particular problems, or needs more detailed instructions, let me know. If you're new to IRC, look for me in the rooms and I'll introduce you to the conventions and help get you started.

Certainly. Our current policy, any active RB member can get OP status, and any RB mod can get SOP status by asking. Register your nick and and I'll add you to the list.

The IRC rooms are open folks, and we've four (4) active chatters in #RB_chat, and 3 people in #RB_play. To those who value the interactive chat, now is a wonderfully good time to participate.

Attention Firefox users:
Easy, step by step instructions for getting to the IRC chat rooms.

Chatzilla is a free IRC chat client for Firefox and Mozilla. I've checked the latest version, and while it does not have all the features of mIRC (out of the box, at least), it is very easy to install and use.

1. Install Chatzilla
English chatzilla for Firefox

2. Open Chatzilla
After the install is complete, from Firefox use
Tools -> Chatzilla
to start.

3. Select a user name
The name will display case sensitive, but otherwise case is ignored.

4. Join the server
Enter
/server irc.bondage.com
on the command line within chatzilla

4a. User name already in use
From the command line, enter
/nick <new nickname>
to select another one

5. Join the channel
Enter
/join #rb_chat (safe room)
or
/join #rb_play (not safe)
The channel will open in a new tab (tabs at bottom of window)

To join both channels, select the status tab (irc.bondage.com) and enter
/join #rb_....
another tab will open, displaying the new channel

If you want to know more, including IRC conventions, other servers, navigating, etc. feel free to ask.
