A female Ancient Greek poet named "Sappho" was from the island of Lesbos. That poet was a lesbian (in the modern way of speaking). So when people wanted to refer to her name they called her "The Lesbian" and with the time the term "Lesbian" became synonym to the homosexual female.

I know this has nothing to do with the topic, but when I was walking along the London streets, I saw girls wearing a t-shirt that said 'I'm not a lesbian but my girlfriend is'.

I thought it was great.

Logical enough it was U, Sani, who brought the hardfounded Background-Informations into this Thread - Homeplay, so to speak! In Fact i heard the Sappho-Story before... Correct me if im False, but to what i read Sappho was the most prominent (maybe the only) female Writer of erotic Poems and - maybe - Novels in the ancient Greek, being disputed but famous for her tabooless, detailed Storys of free Love (in)between the Genders.
