Reputation: An Explanation! - Rape Board

Thought I'd post a quick thing about the reputation feature here on RB. If you look on a post at the bottom of the panel for the user that posted it you'll notice a little scale icon. Click on that and a small window will come up giving you the option to approve or disapprove of that post with a little message space bellow. Approving or disappoving will add or subtract from that users reputation.
The reputation is a way for members to show their opinions about other members posts without actually saying anything. I noticed not many people use it and I have had questions asking about it. Hope this kinda helps explain the thing. Refer further questions or statements of opinion to this thread please.

And what is the general idea? What can the points be used for?

The reputation system predates my joining by quite a bit, but I think it was thought up as a way to show the regardes of members for other members. The points aren't really worth anything, save maybe an ego boost. It works like a certain other board's karma system to show contributions positive or negative to the board, but is much more democratic in function.
