Sex Addiction
Was watching an interesting show last night about sex addiciton. Ignoring all the elbows I was getting from the man of the house, I was disturbed to find it struck a few chords with me.
Does anyone else consider them maybe possibly being a sex addict? If so... Do you think that it is related to your rape fetish or is it separate? My rape fetish started innocently and I like to think its separate but the years when I was working I didnt crave rape like the way I did before and after.. (so is selling your body is a kind of rape in itself?) |

An addiction to sex would mean you'd have an all-consuming desire to obtain it by any means necessary, and damn the consequences. While fulfilling my rape fantasies via rp or watching movies is VERY arousing for me, they don't have so much control over me that I forsake my friends, family, and job because of them. I think, like all else in life, as long as there's a sense of balance, then you're pretty much OK, even though our particular fantasies are considered to be well outside the mainstream.

By the way, if you haven't read it already, I highly recommend you check out the book "Portnoy's Complaint" by Phillip Roth. It's an excellent read that manages to be both informative AND humorous. From Wikipedia - "Portnoy's Complaint: A disorder in which strongly-felt ethical and altruistic impulses are perpetually warring with extreme sexual longings, often of a perverse nature..."

you know whats funny about that? the way I got past it.. going by the only thing that stopped it controlling me so much was when I began getting paid for it oh but I still had to get counselling yeah.. but it felt like at least Iwasnt giving everything of me away, I was getting something in return.. and something my male friends used to be sooo jealous of. Being able to do that..
congrats on getting past it, it looked really nasty for some addiucts more than others. Does it still chase you? thanks for the heads up on the book that sounds alright I need a good book to read atm too |

P.S. - I think you can get a used copy of Portnoy's Complaint from Amazon.com for about $1.97.

cheap as chips!!
well YES .. I thought of exactly thatwhen I was listening to that guy... if theres no porn theres this.. if Idont wanna masturbate Ill do that.. but I HAVE to get a fix... and what if the man couldnt get one?? and theres this chick.. alone in an alley or whatever.. and hes very badly strung out.
I wondered if two sex addicts got together if that takes care of the problem.. but my man rightly pointed out that theyd probably have to take it to further extremes to get the same hit. |

THanks for that link! Read it.. made sense.
hmmm.. but why does everything seem to make sex look bad?? porn is bad?? It seems to be a general consensus of mainstream society.. but most of that society is is controlled by religion.. I guess its all about balance. |

I believe BeDastardly's point,
Quote:
I suggest that an addiction be defined as a continuum: A person requires progressively larger "fixes" of the behavior, practice, or substance to obtain a satisfactory pleasure response ("high"), and yet the degree of pleasure ("high") is progressively insufficient. Back in the 1950's (oops! I dated myself!) Pall Mall cigarettes had an ingenious advertising slogan: "Are you smoking more now, and enjoying it less?" Apply that to your sex practice, or your gambling, your drinking, eating, drugging, etc. and you will understand the dynamic of addiction. |

This turned into the gaggirl/BeDastardly thread...Lol We are human animals, so i think everybody is addicted to sex to some degree. Except nuns, virgins, and impotent men and frigid women...

Addiction ...
One should differ here a little. Since addiction is considered to be a form of sickness perhaps we should go into detail here. Nymphomania (female) as well as Satyriasis (male) are the actual "addictions" to sex. People suffering from those have an urgent and permanent desire for sexual intercourse without getting any pleasure from the actual act. If such people do not get their "dose" of sex they may suffer from withdrawal syndromes - physically as well as psychically. Clinically speaking those are addictions. There is also Hypersexuality - not differentiating sex - "permanent lust" as one might say. Hypersexual people have sex as their only focus in life. Generally not considered to be an addiction, hypersexuality might develop forms of addictive behaviour as well (in fact it mostly does). Psychologically and clinically that's it. An overdeveloped desire for sex is just an individual feature usually arising during puperty. But as we all know people are quite different so maybe some feel it earlier, some later and some never.

Does it count if I'm addicted to wanting to have sex with you Gaggirl?
Oh, and just in case we've picked up any New Zealand Members recently: "Dus it cownt if um uddectid tu wintang tu huv six wuth yew Giggurl?" Now American and European members reading that will be thinking, "what the fuck?", but trust me, Australian members will be pissing themselves... (just kidding my Kiwi friends )
