Rapidshare
I don't know why it's so popular. I don't like it for uploading or download. As a free user I can only upload small files and only do those one at a time.
So you guys that use it could you tell me why? Like what are it's good points that make you use it? It pretty much sucks for free users. Is it awesome as a premium member? I thought I'd post this here cause people tend to get fired up over choices of file host lol. |

Looks like some negative rep coming from me Trina
JK I will reply two ways First I had and was a premium user for a number of years as far back as the .de blowup and yes it is a nice site for premium users, unlimited downloads and several way to upload file while you sleep. Second as a free user now It downloads about like most sites to me You get one file you hit your limit you wait and do it again. I have not uploaded anything since my premium account was cancelled by rs and will not as I feel unless you crypt your files as many do here you are waisting your time because of rats. |

The first point is that Rapidshare is the most used filehoster in the world, that means that more members have premium accounts from RS than from any other filehoster.
Second, from most regions it has a very fast download speed, not like many other hosters, where you get fast downloads only in specific regions. For Uploaders it's also comfortable. You can upload 200 MB parts (which isn't that small). And if you use RapidUploader you don't have to upload file by file. You just drag your files into the program and get all the links when it's finished. And about that news that rapidshare gave away IP-numbers of uploaders, it's most likely a fake news created by an underground news site whose main sponsors are Alphaload and UseneXt. |

I guess I see your points. But that's all if you have a premium account. Most people don't have one. When I upload stuff to share I want people to be able to download it as easy as possible. Megaupload(and Megaporn) allow you upload huge files so you won't need 10 links for one download. I mean 8-10 links on RS without a premium account takes forever to grab. You could do that in one link on MU or MP and anyone paid member or not can download it quickly.

When you have very large files, MU or MP might be the better alternative.
But otherwise, if you have only one link, the risk is higher that the connection breaks up or something like that. If you have already downloaded 600 MB and in the end you have nothing, it's very frustrating. I've made this experience that's why I prefer a little smaller parts. And there are many users, that don't have premium accounts but know how to skip the waiting time at RS (and other filehosters). |

Rapidshare
I currently have six premium accounts. Even so, I consider this to be a very inexpensive hobby. People that say that they never spend money for porn are just being disingenuous with themselves. Time is money. Wasting time dealing with waiting times and download limits equates to wasting money.
Rapidshare is simply the best of the lot. It’s typically faster and their uploading program is a very handy tool. Rapidshare has more servers in more worldwide locations than any other file host. Unless you have a Mac or Linux platform, Cryptload, Rapidshare and Winrar make the complete package. Cryptload allows free users to input all the links and the password for a vid and then just walk away or continue to gather more links. After a very short while, you go to the container folder and view the already extracted file. Cryptload eliminates waiting times, increases speed (Megaupload and Rapidshare and a few others doesn’t know you’re a free user). And, you never have to try to remember a password. I started using Cryptload in January. Since that time, I haven’t lost a single file to the rats. No one can see the links. If they can’t see them, they can’t report them. One of the downsides of Cryptload is the Mac and Linux issue. Cryptload is behind schedule on their projected completion date for a new version that will include those users. The other downside is the less than remarkable learning curve suffered by many people. |

The Eternal Debate
I feel your pain Trina-crys,as do many of us.
I think Rapidshare sucks in a very big way.It is slow as hell and you have to wait 15 minutes between downloads.Drives me nuts. Of course Premium users like it because to them its like Mediafire to the rest of us. In the end though it's uploaders choice and if we want the files. Then we have to deal with whatever filehost they use. I guarantee if the people with Premium Rapidshare accounts did not have them. They would be using Mediafire or Mega.... I guarantee it And by the way i have been using Mediafire for over a year for free and i have never lost one file(knock on wood).... |

I will make this simple, as someone seems to ask this question every other month {and start a thread about it!} I download far more mainstream films than I do porn or "niche" films and 90% of those films are hosted on RS links. And until THAT changes I will continue to use RS! I am nowhere near as prolific a poster as many folks on this forum {or others} but what I do post enables me to maintain a premium account without ever having to pay for it. As to the claims that someone always makes about how RS deletes more files than any other host? Hogwash! By number perhaps {what else do you expect when you host far more total files} but I'll wager that by percentage of files hosted, RS is no different than any other filesharing service and if you know the tricks you can further protect your files from "accidental" deletion when someone else with the same file gets theirs nuked. And NO filesharing service protects when DMCA documents are involved! Cheers all from the Stainless Steel Rat

The never ending debate goes on and on and on...
I would love to be corrected if I’m wrong, because I also have a premium account at Mediafire and in my location Mediafire is almost as fast as Rapidshare and I prefer their statistical output. Since I actively started posting in September, I’ve uploaded 1,699 files to Rapidshare. The total downloads of those files add up to 30,169 GB. I pay about 70 Euro a year for the Rapidshare account. At Mediafire, I pay about $60.00 a year for 1,200 GB of bandwidth (100 GB per month) and an additional $0.0497 per GB after that. If my math is correct and I’ve done it several times, posting the same files at Mediafire would have cost me about $1,500.00 to date and that’s just for 9 months. If I uploaded smaller files to a less frequented board, Mediafire would make sense. Uploading full size movies to this board is totally illogical. I also have a Gold account at Deposit Files. If I had uploaded the same files at Deposit Files, I would have earned about $160.00. I use this account only for downloading and even with the Gold account, in my location the speed is hit or miss. The rules of the board are clear. No pay per click hosting sites are allowed and Deposit Files can be defined in no other way. Even though I believe the rule to be ambiguous and I disagree in principle, it is the rule. Granted, Rapidshare awards “points†that you can trade for toys or an account extension. But there is no actual cash transfer. All logic and reasoning aside, I use Rapidshare because I collect those neat little alarm clocks prizes they give! |

RS is essentially the first filesharing service that came to be known by the general population around the world.
MU, MP, MF etc. etc. are all newer file services, and a lot of people tend to be old school. Also, some people may have noticed me heavily supporting MU/MP over MF in "Discover & Download," but I take that back. The download count feature doesn't work as they claim to, and it is pissing me off. MediaFire is back up there as the best once again, but man I wish they would do something about the 100MB limit. Quote:
I have internet speed where I can download 100 MB files from RS or MF in a matter of seconds, yet it takes me about 5 minutes just to download a 50 MB file off of DF. File Factory also keeps failing. Not the worst choice, but definitely not the best. |

To HRH and SSR... This is not a diss or insult to you guys. It's just people stating their preferences.Don't take it personal. In the end it comes down to the fact that someone is taking the time(and in your guys case)money to share with people of like mind. That can Never be a negative.... |

Mediafire charges the uploader's account every time there is a download of his file. That's why when I see a Mediafire file, I must be very impressed with the caps or I don't download it. I know that every time I download a file, the uploader's account is being charged. |

[QUOTE=theDarkOne;342797]I load up full mainstream movies to that totally awesome board (K1 Media )with my free account and because there is no 15 minute wait and being able to download multiple files at once it's fast as hell.So i would have to disagree with it being illogical.
[Quote] I was unaware of the advantages for free users. For you, it is logical. For me, as a premium user, it is not. [QUOTE=theDarkOne;342797]To HRH and SSR... This is not a diss or insult to you guys. It's just people stating their preferences.Don't take it personal. [Quote] There was certainly no implied or intended insult perceived by me. I'm not sure about "diss" part. I stopped taking this personally a few months back. The original question posed by Trina was why so many people use Rapidshare and went on to explain how awful she thought it was. My intent was to answer her question and inform her that with the use of Cryptload, she would have the same advantages as a premium user. Last edited by HRH1948; 05-01-2009 at 05:11 PM. |

My point of view...
RS is not so bad...yes i have to wait 15 minutes...but the download speed isn't so slow for me.
Obvious i prefeer MU....because he gives me no waiting time...and more faster speed...same for mediafire.... |

I never complain about a file host when someone post something. I totally agree it should be their choice. But I do also think most people that post using RS either have a premium account or are trying to get one through points.
