yep I hear you, I used to work nightshifts in old aged homes, especially BAD and fucking TERRIBLE when you are locked up with 23 geriatric insane confused people ina basement with grilles and keypad entry and exit only. but on the other hand, I got to fantasize ALOT about being raped. maybe someone stole in and hid in the toilets before the night staff came on. or maybe we get a robber breaking in. or first thing in the morning when the old fellas get up at sparrows fart incidentally let in a drunk and horny lad who lucked out at the nightclub on the way home. i used to walk around at night all by myself and feel deliciously jumpy! oh and I used to get time to write my fatasies down on the laptop. (no time anymore)
anyway thank FUCK I dont do that shit now. falling asleep at the wheel on the way home just isnt sexy. an d the pay was good compared to day work in the same feild but now I make in 30 minutes what I used to get in a whole night of aforementioned CRAP. what do you do? |

well I'm the opposite, have worked night shift for years, and I love it. I'm a supervisor, so once the big shots go home for the day I run my own show. Plus I have a computer with a private office, so I can get online if I like.
I get off at 11:30PM, at which time the bars are really just starting to heat up, and best of all I never have to worry about waking up in the morning, I sleep till I'm not tired any more. All things considered I'd much rather be a creature of the night. |

get off at 1130? Now that I could handle. Except for the annoyance of having to deal with mealtimes and showering the old folk and putting them to bed. *shudder*
I used to get on shift at 11 pm and work til 7 am... |

I never made any more than a 25% shift differential, so I told 'em it wasn't worth the grief. All my friends were off in the evenings, and I'd only see them on the occasional weekend if I'd stayed on evening shift. Yucchhh. I did it for a while to get the company out of a bind, then jumped back to days as soon as possible.

Well GG, now you have me thinking of you, all alone, in that short nurses dress, walking down a dimly lit hallway in the middle of the night. Ahh the possibilities |

(laughing) I'm visualizing a rape scene like something from 'Night of the Living Dead', but with 'em on walkers...
...damn, it's hard to molest the young chickies when they can outrun ya!

it fucking sucks ass! but hey! gotta get me some money before i go to the states... and working is better then sitting on my ass all day long collecting my welfare and shit (social security is so fucking good in the netherlands ) get like almost 700 euro's from welfare in the month... and with work i make like 100 a 200 euro's more

When the sun comes up, the light provoks some hormonal reaction in your brain that works as an 'internal clock'. Messing up with that can be ok to some people, but as far as I'm concerned, it was a complete disaster. My mind was getting really blurry from living at night. (No, it wasn't just the beer). Well seriously, it has been prooved in the medical world, the human kind is made to leave under the sun. It makes up for a good nervous system, clear mind, etc.... But don't get scared by my post, some famous scientists are living at night and are doing a brilliant job so.....

I did it for the summer, 9:00pm - 6:00am. If you value your sleep, it's amazing how fast the day goes before you find yourself in there again. Fortunately I've always been a night owl so I handled it easy enough.

Although i never did get the oportunity to work night shifts at the hospital, i did try to start as early as possible or finish as late as possible. I liked working till the late hours of the night or come in before dawn broke. It meant less interuptions for me so i could do my work in peace and quiet. Also i am more of a night person so i sleep in the day and am awake at night. (when i sleep that is) It also meant that when i started late or finished early the shops would still be open so that i could get my personal needs done so i could still relax on the weekends if i wasn't working and it also meant that the shops weren't that busy.
The only thing i didn't like about working the night hours were the creepy noices and bizare behaviours that went on around the office. It being the old emergency department has left it with an eerie feeling when you are there alone. |

first time i didn't really mind doing nightshifts... as long as i didn't smoke some weed or hasjies before time... cause damn... when your high and working nightshifts time is pretty near frozen... those were some LOOONG nights... but when i wasn't high, wich was most of the time, i didn't really mind it... but nowdays... i just don't really like em anymore... i love daylight even tho i'm an evening person... but being on different shifts every week does tend to fuck up your sleeping pattern and mind etc.... but i'd still rather work then do nothing

Love night shift as I cant stand the daylight anymore(it burns too much??) been doing it for ten years now. And am used to it at last.
Love the side benefits of it like avoiding rush hour as everyone is going the opposite direction of you! Plus its fun drinking beer on your porch at 8AM waving goodbye to your neighbor as he heads off to work! Some things you never get used to tho like WHAT Day is IT?? And as you leave in the morning people coming in tell you "Good Night?" But it isnt for everyone I think!??

always liked working third but hated second . the pay diff was 35 cents an hour on 3rd , so it helped . and the wife worked first so it was less time together . but that wasn't always bad either . overall i loved night shifts !!!!

oh... hear is some other shit i hate about night shifts!
if you have night shift and the next week late shift (this goes for me anyways) i have much trouble getting into a good sleeping pattern again... like now it's 4.44am and i should be sleeping... but i can't sleep cause i'm still used to the nightshift pattern of sleeping >.>

funny you should ask about hating nightshifts, looks like I might be starting a job that will be all nightshifts. It's really not that bad. Just takes a bit of time to get used to going to sleep at 8 a.m. instead of 3 or 4 a.m. (yes the extra 3 or 4 hours does make a difference.) LOL
