Slut Walks - Cop's comment sparks protest - Rape Board

I was not sure if I should add this to the "I was raped in RL" thread or start a new thread. I finally decided that the title would grab attention.

Once again the well meaning have inserted their foot into their mouths. Any psychologist, psychiatrist or social worker worth their salt will tell you that rape is primarily a crime of power not a crime of sex.

The officer in question said "...that women should avoid dressing like "sluts" to avoid being raped or victimized.."

Visual attraction is how many meet or take the first step in a relationship. To automatically assume that the way a person looks or dresses gives an indication of their sexual desires or behavior is crazy. Yes, serial rapists and killers may select certain victims for physical traits; but once caught, we often find out that the "victim type" represents a person from the attackers past. And that the attacker has unresolved anger / behavior issues with that person.

Personally I find nurses uniforms, women in bikini's / underwear, or even certain everyday outfits very attractive. Seeing a girl/woman dressed in that manner usually results in "boy I'd love to bang her" thoughts. I don't go and rape her.

So, has anyone seen, heard or participated in a Slut Walk? Would you?
Does slutty dress invite rape?

The world would be a very sad place indeed without, so-called, "sluts".

In my mind, the best form of worship of such mythical creatures would be a multiple-penetration, unremitting fuck-fest.

In the real world, all humans should and must be free to express themselves without fear of violence. Anything else is despair, indeed.

There is a walk where I live. I intend on going and supporting my female counterparts in this. That cop from TO was waaay outta line.

What a woman wears has no bearing at all on whether or not she gets raped. I've seen enough newspaper articles about old women being raped in robbery/home invasions - don't think granny was dressed like a "slut" when crackheads broke in to rob her!

I've never felt like I was in imminent danger when I was wearing something revealing. It's usually the opposite - guys go out of their way to help me and make sure I'm "safe"!

I remember seeing this on the national news not too long ago. I can understand the furor that the cop's statement caused but seriously...hasn't everyone said something that they regretted and couldn't take back?

So jumping on this particular guy isn't any sort of answer. The slut walk however, could be a great idea. But somehow the pessimist inside of me thinks that it's going to be just another cause de celebre that'll have a bit of noteriety and in the end solve nothing either.

It's just going to be a big costume party ffs (And having seen some of the footage of the walk the costumes weren't that great).

While serial rapists might indeed target a certain type that is a reminder of a past incident, there are probably just as many rapes that happen when some girl get's dressed to the nines, goes to a party, get's toasted and is flirting just a little bit too much...then some guy who is probably also under the influence makes the wrong choice and interprets the flirting as consent. So saying that women's apparel has nothing to do with being raped is in my opinion naive. It's may not be the main reason but it's still on the checklist.

Okay, done ranting for the day....oh by the way...there was a supreme court decision that said a woman cannot consent to have sex when she's unconscious....the vote was 6 to 3.....I wonder who the 3 disenters were and what the reasons for the disent was LMFAO
