Roosevelt and Churchill were true allies. Roosevelt would have done anything (and possibly did) to get us into a war with Germany. However, the American people had no desire to go back to Europe for round 2. Hell, there were more German sympathizers here than English sympathizers and quite frankly more anti Semitics here than in all of Europe. Since the French and Indian wars, the American Revolution and the War of 1812, the American people have largely mistrusted the French and the British. In 1940, more people here were willing to fight the English with the Germans rather than Germans with the English.

Veterans of WWI came back with a distaste for the French and the English and a respect for the Germans. Even WWII veterans came back saying they were treated better and had more in common with the conquered German nationals than either the English or the French. Remember the phrase, "overpaid, oversexed and over here". That pretty well summed up the British welcome in WWII. If Hitler hadn't declared war on the US just after Pearl Harbor, there has been some heated debate as to whether are not the US congress would have declared war on Germany as well as Japan.

Yeah, I see what you mean. Except for their eyes, noses, eye brows, jaw line, age lines and lips, I see little resemblance. I was probably confused by the dress colors. Ah!, "There Are None So Blind As Those Who Will Not See".
