That is an interesting passage. At the time European Jews and Druze militias were fighting a proxy war in the Levant. I suppose it would have been unlikely to predict the Balkans conflicts at the time, or the fact that there has been a state of emergency in France for two years now. Then there was the attempts by Russia to lure Orthodox Greece away from the EU over imposition of a management commitee in exchange for a financial bailout.

The prospect of sectarian conflict still boils away, and “Europe” is a very fluid term. Nothing to do with Ulster of course, but the writer who wrote that line should probably have spent less time in Hong Kong.
