No. It is one reason. Presently, the United Kingdom is legally bound to accept any person that is a E.U citizen. This includes criminals. We are also unable to deport E.U citizens if they commit a crime here.

Further to this, the E.U Schengen area open border policy means that it is very easy for some one to enter the E.U at the eastern end and then cross Europe unchallenged until they reach the western coast of France. There are currently tens of thousands of illegal immigrants camped out there, attempting to cross in to the United Kingdom illegally. There have been riots, vehicles hijacked and people threatened. Even the Channel Tunnel has been attacked, and has had to close several times because of this.

Bizarrely, the United Kingdom made a law that penalises any British truck driver if these illegals manage to sneak across stowed away in vehicles.

There are plenty of other reasons why many wanted either for the European Union to reform, or for us to leave altogether.

Amongst this, the European Court of Justice can over rule any decision made by our parliament, or in our courts.

The European Union does not have trade agreements with many of the worlds most successful economies, including the U.S.A, China and India. By E.U law, the U.K is not able to negotiate its own trade deals with the U.S.A, China and India. We are also not able to impose tariffs on nations whose exports might damage our own industry. For example, the U.S.A can impose crippling import tariffs on Chinese steel exporters, to protect its own steel industry. The United Kingdom can only impose the standard E.U tariff, which seems to be not enough to prevent the Chinese from flooding the U.K with cheap steel and damaging our industry.

Many perceive that E.U expansion may have contributed to the civil war in Ukraine, and that despite claims (false) that the European Union has kept peace in Europe since the end of WWII, the E.U may actually bring war to Europe.

Another perception is that the E.U is inward looking, isolationist, stifles competition and innovation, is undemocratic, and is destroying the economies and cultures of many member nations in the pursuit of a political ideal of a United States of Europe.
