Meanwhile, back in the real world, parents of deaf children have been laying in to members of Northern Irelands Assembly for lack of progress over power sharing. Northern Ireland does not have a sign languages act, or any sort of legislation that supports the accessing of language for deaf people and their families. There is no provision for teaching of British Sign Language in the provinces schools, and there are only just over 30 BSL translators to cover the whole country.

Whilst Stormont remains closed, and Westminster fails to govern properly in its place, this legislation cannot be made.

Obviously language can impact on a persons ability to access education, along with the cumulative effect that has on their career prospects further down the line.

Puts a petty squabble over a couple of dead languages in to context, doesn't it?
