I'm assuming you mean economic independence, as you full well how Ireland became politically independent.

While the UK is an important trading partner, it's not even the top destination for Irish exports. The US gets 22% to Britain's 15, curiously, Belgium is third with 13.

American tech firms Intel, Microsoft and Google are major employers. Tourism is significant but as much as in the past. Agriculture, once the mainstay of the Irish economy is now less than 10% of gnp.
