Right, so the provisionals responded by terrorising the community it claimed to be fighting for. What ever the failings of the British government, I don't see how it explains that situation. Except that the IRA were more concerned with criminality than with so called freedom.
Of course with Brexit, you called argue that the current political class are fostering conditions where they are governing a society that has not consented to that governance, but with one major difference. Unlike Ireland, the United Kingdom started out as an independent nation.
