Post good Friday, IRA volunteers took a number of paths. Some went mainstream with Sinn Fein, some, mainly in the border counties took over the smuggling and fuel laundering that funded operations for private gain. The third smallest group are the so called dissidents. This is the group responsible for most if not all the recent violence. The smugglers are making way too much money to draw attention to themselves with something like the recent Belfast shooting.
