In modern context, the regiment involved is probably not that relevant. As we have seen in this thread, former IRA soldiers are now immune from prosecution as long as they no longer take up arms. In contrast, soldiers serving in Northern Ireland have not been given such guarantees, and there are still calls today for soldiers involved in incidences such as Bloody Sunday to face prosecution.

It seems unlikely at present that this will happen, but time is passing quickly people, as we have seen with the deaths of both McGuinnes, and his erstwhile enemy cum friend, Reverend Ian Paisley. It seems unlikely to me that any former member of the British military would be willing to volunteer information about what they saw or did in Ulster, and we will never get to the bottom of what really happened on Bloody Sunday.

Without parity, and without owning of responsibility from both sides, under the shadow of doubt, and the casting of blame and accusation, can there ever really be a peace in Ulster? Will there simply be a grudge that will fester and can erupt at any time? Say, as Tom has pointed out, over a marching season, or if politician are unable to deal with the interference that the European Union is already running over Britain leaving the organisation?
