The EU is relying on a weak British government being undermined by a pro-EU political class. Theresa May is giving way on an unbelievable swathe of ground. It seems that what we will be left with is a choice between staying in the EU, or a slightly pallid imitation of being in the EU.

There is a precedent within the European Economic Area for a return to the type of arrangement that the UK and EIRE had before both nations joined the then Common Market. Croatia is a provisional member of the EEA, which includes all EU nations. It has a customs waiver arrangement with Bosnia and Herzogovinia, which ensures freedom of movement of goods, services and people between the two nations. It does not mean freedom of movement from Bosnia in to the rest of the EEA.

So the big question is what happens when 17.4 million British citizens wake up to the news that we're not really leaving the EU? That we won't be able to control our territories, decide who fishes in our waters, or comes to live in our lands? When we are still subject to European legislators and courts, even if we no longer have representatives there?

Potentially the result could make the "troubles" look like a rival school gang fight in comparison. There is a very definite demographic to who voted for what in the EU referendum. Leave supporters tend to come from either upper middle class rural backgrounds (guess who has all the guns?), or urban areas outside of the larger conurbation centres (guess who has all the hands on military combat experience?). Remain supporters are a bunch of middle class, university educated snowflakes, that were too stupid or lazy to get off their arses and vote!
