Could the actual IRA reign in the dissents? Probably so. But post Good Friday, the IRA is extremely selective about when, or if, to act. Supposedly they no longer even exist. Some time back one of their remaining heavy hitters went completely off the rails. Was suspected of killing another volunteer, was scaring the living hell out of his neighbors, and actually shot one of their dogs. So, the IRA took him out. The DUP went up in flames, screaming bloody murder that the Provos had never gone away. My point being that a drug dealer taking a couple in the knees probably doesn't justify their involving themselves.
