I have to confess to a slght inaccuracy throughout this thread. Ireland was briefly both independant and united during the early days of the Irish Free State. At least until the Northern Ireland parliament voted to rejoin the United Kingdom. Sorry about that!

Does lend another perspective though. Obviously not all Irish people view the United Kingdom as a foreign power.
