Default Marilyn Chambers dead at 56

Quote:
CANYON COUNTRY (CBS) - She first got noticed as the beautiful, fresh-face on a box of Ivory Snow, but it was for her not-so-squeaky-clean work in adult films that caused Marilyn Chambers to become a household name in the 1970s.

Chambers, 56, was found dead in her Canyon Country home Sunday evening, according to authorities.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death is pending.

Chambers, real name Marilyn Ann Taylor, was found dead around 9 p.m. in the 16000 block of Vasquez Canyon Road, said Assistant Chief Ed Winter of the coroner's office.

Chambers broke into the porn industry by appearing in the 1972 film
"Behind the Green Door," the first widely released porn film in the United States.

Her appearance in the film cost the then-aspiring model and actress her job as Procter & Gamble's Ivory Snow girl, appearing on the soap box with a baby and the caption "99 & 44/100% pure."

The Providence, R.I., native had a bit part in the 1970 Barbra Streisand film "The Owl and the Pussycat," but after establishing herself as a porn star, she was never able to break into mainstream films.

While not really a "rape" star, she did do a lot of work and is someone we all know.
