Regarding Northern Ireland joining the Republic in “independence” pissed off Orangemen were always going to be a problem.

The obvious solution long term is an autonomous Ulster province. It raises its own taxes, and administers its own budget, makes its own laws, and is responsible for its own trade, borders, and security.

Some form of mutual aid could be agreed between the UK and EIRE in the event of some form of emergency, but if NI is esssentially an independent state, then neither Loyalist or Republican has any real cause for complaint.

It would require the EU keeping its fucking nose out, as certain elements of Good Friday need to be retained - the open borders and trade that existed before we joined the EU.
