Happy 5th of July!

Well, it is Sunday, so enjoy your day. :)

I've still not got over the Boston tea party. All that tea.....wasted.

And sorry, but for a really dumb reason :)

The Boston Tea Party was brilliant when you think about it! The tea thrown into the harbor was actually owned by several merchants involved in the tea party and was insured. So it was political theater combined with insurance fraud :)

I had no idea about the insurance fraud angle. I knew it was a protest against english tea being taxed so americans wanted to buy dutch tea.

The werid thing being, dutch tea was more expensive, tax or no tax. So I guess that lends something to the merchants organising it.

So America is based on a lie..... Interesting :)

It does explain why Septics have no idea how to make tea. Not that I'm bothered, hate the fucking stuff any way.

The tax and the laws against buying Dutch tea were two separate but related issues. Besides being angered by taxes imposed by the crown, the American Colonists were also rather peeved about British trade regulations that made it illegal for them to trade with non-British merchants. In fact, the American Revolution (Which was actually a successful colonial rebellion!) was largely started by wealthy American merchants and such who wanted to free themselves of British taxes and restrictive trade laws.

So America isn't so much based on a lie as a carefully constructed tapestry of half truths! :)

Yet they complained when the South rebelled against exact same conditions! Shall we move this to the Rowdy Room so I can work a few fucks in to it? ;)

perfectlyformed 07-05-2015 08:41 AM

Is my imagination or is this site getting educational?

Well PF, you mentioned the Boston Tea Party and it went from there. I couldn't help myself! I was a history major. :) And Rotter, we're not moving this thread to the Rowdy Room and so you'll have to discuss things like a grownup!

FuckingRotter 07-05-2015 02:53 PM

Bollocks!

Because of Family Guy every time someone mentions the Boston Tea Party I'm reminded of an episode where Peter and the gang did the same thing but with British beer. I wonder if someone during the tea party made a remark as excellent as Quagmire did. When someone mentioned feeling guilty about throwing away all the beer, Quagmire without skipping a beat says "I felt guilty once but she woke up halfway through!"

Every time I see that episode I bust out laughing.

It does seem like I learn something new each week here. Recently I've learned more about WWII, Brexit, politics. Not forgetting the "C" words various uses, the cunt.

I just realized this is a year old thread, resurrected by a fucking spammer.

Can we move this to the Rowdy Room now, so I can air my opinion on grants lack of observational skills?
