Wogs.
 

My teenage niece and her mates are referring to hedgehogs in their gardens as "wogs". Of course, somewhere down the line, some arsehole is going to take a fence on the behalf of someone else. Ridiculous really, but predictable. I'll keep you updated on the situation. :)

Forgive my American ignorance of English slang, but is what is a "Wog"?

When I was a child "wog" was short for "polliwog" but I somehow can't see anyone taking offense at that.

It's short for hedgehog, apparently. Although it has another meaning which has long since fallen out of use.

I had always believed the "w" to represent "worthy", intended with a hint of sarcasm. Any way, it's hedgehogs now.

Going back to Sierras post, is it time that Septicemia was seperated from the group of English speaking nations? I think it is. I know ourselves, and out Celtic neighbours for example, have national and regional differences. Antipodean English differs from our own, especially the slang. Americanish though, it's another language entirely. I think it's about time those Septics gave up their last pretence to civilisation, and finally admit they are no longer butchering the English language. They have murdered it, stuck it full of adrenalin, and created a zombie monster out of it.

And fuck the French and the IRA!

There are a few literate Americans, FR. Not many, admittedly, but a few.

In fact the English language on either side of the Atlantic has taken a horrible beating. It is no longer truly a language at all - just a collection of diverse dialects interspersed with blobs of slang and internet short-talk.

Funny you should mention that, batffink. I first learned the difference when I was actually living in London briefly as a girl. I had never been exposed to the differences between our languages and said something about a father spanking a schoolmate's fanny. Scandal!! I explained myself, but the Sisters tut-tutted and harumphed for days.

Wog is video game players slang. It all started with the famous 'Sonic The Hedgehog' game which became a huge hit. Then they came up with Sonic 2,3.....

Sierra, I never wrote anything about illiterate Septics. The French are all bastards though. Except when they're whores. Bastard whores, I suppose.

It a shorter version of gollywog, a rag doll type cloth toy with a blackened face...it obviously has ran it's course as a relevant insult in its place is swag fag,mascot or muppet..and I'm going to write to the Huffington Post if there isn't more equal opportunities for women in porn!!!!..
