The Red Wings had the greatest of competition in those days of old for the faced the other members of the Original Six! Mighty were the teams in those days and the black and gold do pale in comparison to those mighty teams of old and the mighty Red Wings of today:D

No sorry. I have to respetfully disagree. You are not taking into considration the effect more teams have versus the old days when there were only six. So many good players that had potential to be greats if given a chance but with no room for growth the chances disappeared. And the effect of mass media bringing the sport to more people who had never even heard of hockey and the wealth of untapped talent there. No. Today is far more challenging. And all that is black and gold will smite the has been of the red and white.

Any of the Original Six teams at just about any time in the Original Six era could womp just about any team in the NHL today! There were AHL teams in the Original Six era that could womp just about any NHL team today. There is the balancing factor of a larger recruiting pool with so many US born players and Europeans filling out the league but that is counterbalanced by the fact that 30 teams dillutes out the talent between all those different teams. Of course I think the 21 team league was the best and even your evil black and gold was part of that league! Of course they still pale in comparison to the mighty RED and WHITE!!!!!

And what I said earlier still stands. there may be some subar players out there now but they now have the opportunity to be amazing and grow in the sport. They didnt have the chance before. And nt knocking the AHL but I prefer the big leagues. If I cared about AHL gmes too Id never get anything done I only keep up with our two affiliates to see who our up and comers are.
