I have a subbie who's losing weight (for her goddamned health...idiot thinks being damagingly overweight makes her look more normal!) with severe c-curve scoloisis. I'm wondering if she gets down to an acceptable weight...if there is indeed a safe way to suspend someone with a severe c-cure..and a relatively comfortable one, also...

I'm sure if I can find a way, she'll be absolutely thrilled...but this one's mind-boggling...I don't want something to twist the wrong way!

Interesting question...kinda depends on a lot of things though. Structural scoliosis is more severe than nonstructal or functional scoliosis and would require a different level of support. Also, depends on what kind of suspension you mean...obviously an A-frame or from ceiling/high wall supports could be particulary nasty for someone with severe scolisis. However a sling system of back support could work...will have to work on this one....

I'd ditch suspension for fears of serious/permanent spinal injury. Is it her or you that's tching for suspension? I'd figure out what about suspension is appealing and try to achieve it through other means. I know this is like saying have Thai when you want Chinese, but if you want spicy noodles either will do the trick.

Just my 2 cents,

I personally would have a hard saying no to suspension but under these circumstances I must agree with CP, Louise, and Squidley.

Best to be safe.

Marc,

Spend some time studying Shibari. I think you could find a suitable method for a full suspension that would envelope her body and provide suitable support. I've seen many variations on this and the net-like rope ties might be able to support your friend as fully a lying in a bed would, but with a more visual impact.

One nice site for picts is:

Handicaps need not end our play, we just need to adjust a few things for it to contine anew.

Good luck. Play hard, but play safe.

Oooooooooh, i LOVE Shibari!

her. i'm not big into suspending others, though not opposed to it.
